Hello everyone, this is David Rose, owner of Rose's Deli. I have some news to share with you that may come as a surprise and is in many ways sad for me to say. I have decided to close the doors to Rose's Deli at 2:30 pm on December 19th. This has not been an easy decision, but one that I have thought long and hard about. And I've come to the conclusion that it is time to move on to other opportunities.
It is a bittersweet time for me, and my family too. We have run this deli since it was founded in 1989, and have grown to know and love our customers. Over all these years I have felt like I had my own time machine as I saw our youngest customers come in with their parents, then grow up in front of my eyes and become young adults, bringing in their own kids! It's so amazing watching this unfold In front of me. And this has been true too for the five generations of Wake Forest University students who have come in as freshmen and left as graduates. 'Time Machine indeed'. Over the years I've heard a lot about how much Rose's Deli has meant to so many people, their memories of laughter and sharing with friends and family here. Hearing these things has humbled me and made me thankful that I had the opportunity to provide something that will remain even as we move on with our lives. I've enjoyed sitting down from time to time with customers and sharing life's tribulations and triumphs which has given me much appreciation and thanks. All these things I will miss and hold dear to my heart.
I want to thank my employees who have been the backbone of our restaurant. We couldn't have done it without you, especially Linda McKnight, who has been with me for 14 years. Thanks to Steven Rose, my brother, who had the vision to start the restaurant in 1989. And to my parents, Mark and Gail Rose, who have always supported whatever we chose to do with our lives. They have loved and cared about the deli as much as we have, including Mom baking our homemade brownies and dad always on hand to help with repairs and projects. And to my sister, Laura, who has been my right hand during her time here. And last but not least, to my twin, Derrick, who was and always will be, my best friend and partner in crime. :)
I may be the last to close the doors and shut off the lights, but all of us have left a part of ourselves here, just as our customers and friends have done. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing Rose's Deli to be a part of your life, as all of you have been a part of my life for all these years. I hope you will come by and get your Rose's Deli favorites before our last day, and wish us well on our next adventure!
PS Many people have asked about Rose's Deli t-shirts, so I have ordered a limited quantity available for purchase through Dec 19th at 2:30pm.
