Steven Rose, the oldest of Mark and Gail Rose's 4 children, saw an opportunity to take over a restaurant location in a small strip shopping center in 1989, and Rose's Deli was born. Steven did well with the deli and in a few years his brothers, twins David and Derrick, joined him in the business. The 3 brothers, all graduates of W-S high schools, (Steven, RJ Reynolds class of 1985, David and Derrick, Mt Tabor class of '91) loved their community and worked hard to establish the Rose's Deli name and excellent reputation for quality food at an affordable price. They took no shortcuts and made no compromises.
Special thanks to the Rose's Deli employees who have contributed to the success of our restaurant. We couldn't have done it without you! Kudos!
The restaurant grew to be a local favorite and in 1992 they expanded their services to include a catering division run by Steven. They offered a variety of foods while specializing in on-site grilled items. In 1995 they opened a second location at Piedmont Plaza. Although the restaurant did well for its 3 year term, the building management's need for breakfast service ultimately did not fit the deli's business model so they opted out of renewing the contract.
But then, another opportunity presented itself when the owner of one of their largest catering clients, a local vending company, approached Steven about partnering with him to establish several deli restaurants downtown. He planned to provide the locations and needed someone with experience to staff and run them. This proved a very successful partnership until 2000 when Steven decided to sell his interest in the business. Later, Steven, with his wife and 3 kids, relocated to Wilmington to enjoy the coastal life. At that point, brothers David and Derrick stepped up to purchase the business and continue the Rose's Deli tradition.
The deli and catering thrived and they developed a loyal following. Derrick married in 2004, and in 2007, he and his wife relocated to Washington State so she could establish a medical practice there. At that point David bought out Derrick's share and remains the sole proprietor of Rose's Deli. He is happy to have been joined by his sister, Laura, in 2010, and takes pride in continuing the good work he and his brothers began. David & Laura enjoy the relationships they have forged with the many long time customers in the community.
Come and enjoy Rose's Deli for yourself. And we encourage you to share your comments and reviews on the website of your choice.
